April Already!!!
Can you believe it's April already?! We've been so busy here in Room 6 that the time is just flying by!!

We enjoyed making lots of colourful Easter crafts. Since our marble art activity last month was such a success we decided to try our hand at it again, this time with Easter bunnies..
We traced around our hands and used lots of cotton wool to make some cute Easter chicks.
And of course yet another name craft activity!
We used potatoes and colourful paint to print Easter egg shapes onto a basket.
We got busy in the kitchen making some tasty birds nests. We all enjoyed taking turns to stir the mixture.
But the best part of all.......getting to lick the spoon!
Some more chocolate covered Easter buns!
An Easter egg colour sort!! Some of us practiced pulling the eggs off and sticking them back in their baskets while some of us could sort up to 3 different coloured eggs!
We also do great individual work at our work stations each day. Every fortnight we do some sorting, matching, games and vocabulary work that relates to our theme. The only problem is we're so busy working there is no time for pictures!!
Here is one quick snap of a very clever boy working on his Maths.

Our second theme this month was Spring.
We decided to kick start this theme with a bit of planting.
First, we had to pour in the soil.
First, we had to pour in the soil.
Then we sprinkled in the seeds...
Now for our favourite bit: the water!!! We water our seeds every day to make sure they grow big and strong.
Fruity flowers for cookery!
Here we are busy making some foam birds.
Then we pretend to be little birdies ourselves and dug around for (spaghetti) worms in some soil.
We had lots of fun making our butterfly crafts. First we picked our favourite colour paints and squirted them into a tin. Next we popped in some marbles and rolled them around to make beautiful designs on our butterflies.
Quack, quack, ribbit, ribbit- more Spring crafts!
Here we have some more Science taking place in Room 6. We filled a jar up with water and put some shaving foam clouds on top. Then we took turn to drop some blue food colouring into the jar. We really enjoyed watching the drops trickle down through the clouds like rain. April Showers!!
A Fun February!
Our first theme this month was Friendship/ Valentines.
Our theme song was "Will You Be A Friend of Mine?". Sometimes we liked to pick a friend to dance with while we listened to this song.

The songs Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes, One Little Finger and This Is Me, really helped us in our learning.
We decided to start off by learning the names of the different parts of our body.
The songs Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes, One Little Finger and This Is Me, really helped us in our learning.
Every morning during our circle time activities we get a chance to look at ourselves in the mirror. We name all the body parts we can see on our face: eyes, ears, mouth, nose.
Then we made all these parts of the face using our playdough.
To make sure we were certain of all these different body parts we engaged in some sticking crafts.
Now that we had mastered all the parts of the face we decided to turn our attention to the rest of our body parts.
We drew around our bodies on large pieces of paper and decorated them with paint and stickers.

This little piggy went to market, this little piggy stayed at home...... Turns out we have lots of tickles on our feet!
Seeing as we were learning the name for our toes and feet anyway we said we might as well give them a little treat. Aren't we good to ourselves?

Now to explore our senses......
We made a Five Senses Book which looked at all the ways we use our senses in school, hearing the bell, seeing our friends, smelling our lunch cooking, feeling our uniform. We particularly liked looking at the pictures of our snack!

We also used our 5 senses to explore to some mango, melon, kiwi and orange.
Sometimes we forget that we're not supposed to eat certain things and we have a little chew on them anyway.
In this activity we had to decide which things we are allowed to eat and which things we can only touch.
We got the hang of this game really quickly and understood that we don't put sand or markers or paintbrushes in our mouths.
Now just to put this theory into practice......
