April Already!!!
Can you believe it's April already?! We've been so busy here in Room 6 that the time is just flying by!!
Our theme for this month was Easter. Our theme song was  "Sleeping Bunnies" and we really enjoyed putting on our bunny ears and tails each morning to perform our song.

Picture
We enjoyed making lots of colourful Easter crafts. Since our marble art activity last month was such a success we decided to try our hand at it again, this time with Easter bunnies..
Picture
We traced around our hands and used lots of cotton wool to make some cute Easter chicks.
Picture
And of course yet another name craft activity!
Picture
We used potatoes and colourful paint to print Easter egg shapes onto a basket.
Picture
Picture
We got busy in the kitchen making some tasty birds nests. We all enjoyed taking turns to stir the mixture.
Picture
But the best part of all.......getting to lick the spoon!
Picture
Some more chocolate covered Easter buns!
Picture
An Easter egg colour sort!! Some of us practiced pulling the eggs off and sticking them back in their baskets while some of us could sort up to 3 different coloured eggs!
Picture
We also do great individual work at our work stations each day. Every fortnight we do some sorting, matching, games and vocabulary work that relates to our theme. The only problem is we're so busy working there is no time for pictures!!
Here is one quick snap of a very clever boy working on his Maths.
Picture
Still busy at work on our phonics. Letter R: complete ✔
Picture
We really made the most of the beautiful weather we've been getting and made sure to get out and about
lotsss this forntight!
As April is the month for our National Spring Clean we decided to rise to the challenge.
Picture
Next we took a trip to the playground with Ms.Collin's class, so much fun!
Picture
We've been so good that Ms. Whelan just had to treat us to a McDonald's!!
Picture
And the going doesn't stop there.....
We also went on a whole school trip to the cinema to see Dumbo. It was great.

We headed off to First Friday mass early one morning and the weather was so lovely we decided to have our snack outside afterwards.

Picture
Then it was on to the library for an Art and Crafts workshop.
A Bunny Hop dance party in the hall! So much fun!
Picture
It wouldn't be Easter without an egg hunt.....
As you can imagine we are just exhausted after all that going! It's a good thing we have a lovely two weeks off to look forward to! 😊 Happy Easter everyone, we'll see ye all back here soon!

March Madness!

Our first theme for the month of March was St.Patrick's Day! We had soo much fun with this theme ☘
We made lots of lovely crafts.

Picture
Picture
Picture
Here we are having fun with our St. Patrick's Day playdough mats!
Picture
Time for cookery: Mint Aero Shamrock buns, yum!
Picture
We were so lucky that Ms. Moore's Mammy offered to come in to teach us some Irish dancing.
We dressed up in our best green clothes and headed to the hall with Ms. Dunford and Ms. Wall's class.

Picture
Look at us go!! 💃🕺
Picture
For Science we made fizzing pots of gold. We absolutely loved this activity and were so interested in what was happening!
Picture
Next up: our very own St. Patrick's Day Parade. A big thank you to Kate for painting our faces.
Picture
All set to march around the hall. Check out the Gallery for some pictures of us in action.
Picture
Our second theme this month was Spring.
Picture
We decided to kick start this theme with a bit of planting.
First, we had to pour in the soil.
Picture
Then we sprinkled in the seeds...
Picture
Now for our favourite bit: the water!!! We water our seeds every day to make sure they grow big and strong.
Picture
Fruity flowers for cookery!
Picture
Here we are busy making some foam birds.
Picture
Then we pretend to be little birdies ourselves and dug around for (spaghetti) worms in some soil.
Picture
We had lots of fun making our butterfly crafts. First we picked our favourite colour paints and squirted them into a tin.  Next we popped in some marbles and rolled them around to make beautiful designs on our butterflies.
Picture
Quack, quack, ribbit, ribbit- more Spring crafts!
Picture
Here we have some more Science taking place in Room 6. We filled a jar up with water and put some shaving foam clouds on top. Then we took turn to drop some blue food colouring into the jar. We really enjoyed watching the drops trickle down through the clouds like rain. April Showers!!
Picture
A Fun February!
Our first theme this month was Friendship/ Valentines.
Our theme song was "Will You Be A Friend of Mine?". Sometimes we liked to pick a friend to dance with while we listened to this song.
Picture
We also chose a friend to roll the ball to during P.E.
Picture
We met all our friends from Ms. Dunford, Ms. Wall and Ms. Ryan's class in the hall. We had lots of fun playing with each other and with all the lovely toys.
Picture
For Art, we each added our own fingerprints to a tree trunk to make a whole class Friendship Tree.
We also made some Friendship Photo-frames.
Picture
We made some lovely Valentine's crafts.
Picture
Picture
We decided to really treat the loves of our lives this Valentines and took a trip down town to buy some chocolates out of our own savings.  We love you Mammies and Daddies!!
Picture
Who knew Valentine's balloons could be so much fun?
Picture
Next up: Cookery.
Ms. Whelan bought a lovely heart-shaped frying pan for our eggs but unfortunately they didn't turn out too successful....
You'll have to use your imagination for this one folks 💕💖💖

Picture
We also decorated some buns with pink incing and sprinkles, delicious!!
Picture
Our second theme was My Body and The Senses.
We decided to start off by learning the names of the different parts of our body.
The songs Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes, One Little Finger and This Is Me, really helped us in our learning.

Every morning during our circle time activities we get a chance to look at ourselves in the mirror. We name all the body parts we can see on our face: eyes, ears, mouth, nose.
Picture
Then we made all these parts of the face using our playdough.
Picture
To make sure we were certain of all these different body parts we engaged in some sticking crafts.
Picture
Picture
Now that we had mastered all the parts of the face we decided to turn our attention to the rest of our body parts.
We drew around our bodies on large pieces of paper and decorated them with paint and stickers.
Picture
This little piggy went to market, this little piggy stayed at home...... Turns out we have lots of tickles on our feet!
Seeing as we were learning the name for our toes and feet anyway we said we might as well give them a little treat. Aren't we good to ourselves?
Picture
Now to explore our senses......
We made a Five Senses Book which looked at all the ways we use our senses in school, hearing the bell, seeing our friends, smelling our lunch cooking, feeling our uniform. We particularly liked looking at the pictures of our snack!
Picture
We also used our 5 senses to explore to some mango, melon, kiwi and orange.
Picture
Sometimes we forget that we're not supposed to eat certain things and we have a little chew on them anyway.
In this activity we had to decide which things we are allowed to eat and which things we can only touch.
We got the hang of this game really quickly and understood that we don't put sand or markers or paintbrushes in our mouths.
Now just to put this theory into practice...
...
Picture
Everyday before our work stations we use our sense of smell!
Picture
We joined our friends in the hall to explore some more senses.
Touch....

Just in case ye we wondering, we're still keeping up to date with our Jolly Phonics. Take a look at some of the things we got up to while learning about the letter E.
Picture
Another trip to the Cookery Room to have a go at making sausage rolls. We accidentally made a few too many so we decided to share them out with our friends in the other classes.
Picture
And you're all caught up with our news from February!!
We'll see you back here really soon.

Jam- Packed January

A big welcome back to everyone, we hope ye all had a wonderful Christmas and a happy New Year!
We were delighted to be back to school here in Room 6 and excited to see all our friends again after the holidays.

This month we kicked off our learning with the theme of Winter.
Our theme song was "The Winter Hokey Pokey" and each morning we dressed up in our hats, scarves and mittens before performing our song.
Picture
Next we decided to brush up on our temperatures: hot and cold.
First we felt a jug of cold, blue icy water and then some lovely warm red water.
Picture
Since we weren't lucky enough to see any real snow this Winter, we decided to make some of our own.
Picture
Brrrrrrr- messy play with ice......some of us enjoyed it more than others.
Picture
Our Art and Craft skills are improving every single day and so we put our creativity to the test with some Winter crafts. We coloured our own mittens without any help at all! We also painted some winter hats independently and displayed them proudly on the wall.
Picture
Picture
We used a loofah and some white paint to make some Winter Owls. What a hoot!!
Picture
Next up: Puffy Paint Polar Bears.
Look at us mixing up the paint, we just love to stir.
No help needed here!

Picture
You wouldn't believe all the new foods we are trying in cookery each week!
In keeping with the Winter theme we decided to make cream cheese snowmen. It was a thumbs up from us!
Picture
We also tried some beans on toast- delicious!
Picture
Our second theme this month was Toys.
This theme came at a great time as we had already been working hard, learning to play with new toys each morning! Take a look at some of things we have been getting up to. We are really starting to engage with lots of different toys.
Picture
Picture
Picture
Our theme song was "Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear Turn Around" and we enjoyed listening to it each morning with our favourite bears.
Picture
After all that singing we decided to treat our bears to a picnic in the hall!
Picture
We got very creative and had a go at making our own teddy bears....
Picture
Since they turned out so well we said we'd try our hand at some sail boats.
Hours of entertainment!!
Picture
Any water left in the trays girls??
Picture
Since the boats we made in the classroom were so successful we decided to see would they be such a hit in the cookery room. Turns out watermelon is a new favourite of ours!
Picture

We used avocado and white buttons to make some Alien toast.
Ms. Whelan and Eugenie were so proud that we all tasted our creation!

Picture
Back to the classroom for Show and Tell. We all brought in our favourite toys from home and showed them off to our friends. We are so good at sharing.
Picture
Fun with our toy themed play-dough mats.
Picture
We took to the hall for a toy themed treasure hunt. We were all given a picture and had to find the matching toy hidden around the hall. We were really good at it!
Picture
A big thank you to Ms. Ryan for letting us borrow her electric toy car, we just loved it!!
Picture
This month we celebrated not one, not two, but three special birthdays!!!

A chocolate cake for the birthday princess!!

Picture
A very special 6 year old!!!!
Picture
And last but not least.......Happy Birthday Eugenie!!!
Picture

A Delightful December!

December was the most exciting month here in Room 6!!
We came to school one morning to find our classroom had been magically transformed into a Christmas cave.

Picture
Buddy the elf arrived with treats for all!
Picture
We had so much fun trying to spot Buddy's new hiding place each morning.
We were very proud to show him our all hard work! :)

We could still use a bit of work on our "gentle hands" however.....thankfully Santa is a man of many talents!
Picture

Luckily we're all still on the Nice List!!
Picture
A very special lady celebrated her 5th birthday! We all enjoyed some party treats.
Picture
We played the bells for our Christmas concert and we practiced very hard in the classroom beforehand.
Picture
Don't we look smart heading off on our Christmas adventures? And let me tell you, there was a lot of them!!!!!
The cinema, Faithlegg,  Winterval, a Paw Patrol Disco, Christmas dinner..........
Check out the Gallery to see just how much fun we had!!
Picture
Non-Stop November
Our letter sounds for November were P and I.
Inside our "P Box" we found perfume, playdough, paint and....... popcorn- of course we had to have a munch!
Picture
Picture
We started this month with the theme of Occupations. First up was: The Doctor.
We had so much fun opening up our own surgery and pretending to be doctors and patients.
Picture
We also helped to care for some sick puppies and baby dolls.
Picture
A spin in the ambulance anyone?
Picture
We enjoyed examining all the equipment that goes into a doctors bag and turning ourselves into doctors too!
Picture
Next up: The Postman!
After we finished our stylish hats, we made letters for our loved ones and took a trip down town to post them.
Picture
The last occupation we managed to squeeze in was The Builder.
We had so much fun making houses out of lollipop sticks, play dough and blocks!
Picture
Can we fix it? Yes we can!!
Picture
We had so much fun playing with our diggers and dumpers in the most delicious mud- cocoa powder, yum!
Picture
We are getting very adventurous with our tasting- oranges, apples, bananas, plums!
Picture
We also made the most delicious pizza. Little chefs in the making!
Picture
Our second theme this month was Music.
We really love music here in Room 6 and we especially love having a boogie each morning.
Lately we are beginning to dance with each other, aren't we just lovely?
Picture
Our theme song for the fortnight was "I am the Music Man" and we enjoyed singing this song while playing our musical instruments each morning.
Picture
Picture
I think the xylophone could have been our favourite instrument of all!
We even tried to make some xylophone cake.
Picture
A giant piano musical dance mat, now that's what you call entertainment.
Picture
We had such fun making our very own musical shakers and playing them to our favourite songs.
Picture
Picture
Some more musical craft......
Picture
A big thank you to Ms. Collin's class who came and performed some brilliant songs for us. We really enjoyed it.
We even had a little superstar of our own who decided to join in.
Picture
We also met up with some of our other friends from Ms.Wall, Ms. Dunford and Ms. Ryan's class for some more musical madness!!
Picture
Yoghurt, porridge, rice pudding, custard- messy messy messy!!
Picture

What else would you do on a rainy Friday afternoon??
Picture
Some well deserved chill time after a very busy month........but the madness is only beginning!
Check back  next month to see the craziness that Christmas brings to St.John's!!!
Picture

Oh what a busy October!!

You won't believe what a busy month we've had here in Room 6!
We started off with our Jolly Phonics- learning the letters A and T. Each day we listen to the Jolly Phonics letter song, as well making our chosen letter in flour!
Picture
Here's a glance at some of the activities we have been doing to help us learn the number 2.
Our absolute favourite is when we get to chose 2 treats from Ms. Whelan’s treat box!!
Picture

Our themes for this month were Autumn and Halloween.
Below you can see us busy at work on our Autumn playdough mats.

Picture
We learned a lovely Autumn poem about all the different coloured leaves. After, we got creative and made some of our own!
Picture
We enjoyed getting out and about on a nature walk. We collected leaves, conkers and berries and brought them back to school to examine them in greater detail.
Picture
We used some of our left over leaves to help with our Autumn art.
Picture
Then it was on to the cookery room for more leaf themed fun.
We used jam, marmalade, butter and nutella to make a selection of red, orange, yellow and brown leaves!
Picture
We also tried our hand at chocolate chip muffins.
Picture
Our sensory trays this month brought lots of fun. Below you can see us playing with jelly- very tasty!!
Picture
A selection of water, shaving foam and feathers!
Picture
And we had lots of fun with our edible mud. Too bad there was no apron for Ms. Whelan!
Picture
We had a very small class one morning so we decided to go down town and treat ourselves to some crepes- delicious!
Picture
Next up was the theme of Halloween, which brought so much fun!!!
Every morning we sing our Halloween theme song: "Knock Knock Trick or Treat", it's our favourite one so far!
Picture
We painted our hands to make some spooky spiders.
Picture
We decided we'd paint our feet too!
Picture
A game of ghost bowling anyone?
Picture
Back to the cookery for some Halloween treats- Pumpkin rice krispie buns and chocolate covered apples. Yum!!
Picture
Picture
We really enjoyed listening to our pop- up Halloween story "Silly Haunted House".
First we listen to the story as a class and then we enjoy some individual library time.
Picture
The cutest Oompa Loompa and Witch you’ve ever seen????
Picture
Of course we had to try pumpkin carving!
Picture
Slugs and snails, pumpkin guts and marshmallow ghosts- one big sensory trail!!
Picture
Who could blame us for needing some relaxation time after such an eventful month?!
Picture

Settling into September

What a busy month we've had here in Room 6! As well as settling back into school, we have also welcomed two new friends who are getting on super in their new classroom.
Introducing our A-Team......
Picture
We got straight to work with our Jolly Phonics. We have been learning the letter S.
Picture
Picture
We have also been doing lots of work on the number 1!
Picture
Our themes this month were Family and School.

For the theme of Family we decided to read the story of "Goldilocks and the Three Bears"
After having a look at this very special bear family we decided we'd try our hand at some teddy bear toast.

Picture
And of course we had to examine the porridge when we were finished our story!
Picture
Next, we decided to make our own family photo albums. We really enjoy looking at pictures of our loved ones throughout the day.
We also learned the names of the various family members and accompanying Lámh signs, with the help of the "Finger Family" poem.
Picture
Our second theme of the month was School. And what better way to kick off this theme than by exploring our own school. We went to visit the woodwork and cookery room as well as a trip to see our friends in other classrooms.
Picture
We got crafty!
Picture
Then it was back to the cookery room where we mastered scrambled eggs with toast and waffles. We have also been tasting some new foods in the classroom!
Picture
We just love messy play! Below you can see us having fun with some hair gel, oats and flour.
You can also see why the aprons are necessary!!
Picture
We got active on our balance bikes.
Picture
We made the most of the fine weather with a trip to the playground.
Picture

Finally, the Dogs Trust came to visit. First we had fun with our own dogs in the classroom and then we went to the hall to meet Jack.
Picture
