Classroom Literacy Activities
We made some pancakes on Shrove Tuesday with Laura, our visiting teacher. She gave us a certificate at the end of class.
Personal Care Programme - We looked a range of beauty, health care, medical and household cleaning products in relation to popular brands and care and storage of products.
We learned about Florence Nightingale and watched a video about her.

March themes -The Human Body/Senses/Ireland/St. Patrick/Easter
Examples of work covered- The human skeleton, location of the organs and their functions, the five senses, we also looked at the mouth/teeth, we learned lots of new facts and terms.
St. Patrick- we watched a video on our patron saint. We learned about Lent and looked at Irish traditions and proverbs.
We are making some St. Patrick's Day decorations at the moment, we will make a combination of 2D & 3D art pieces this month.
Maths- Measurement, time and money.
Science - We are looking at different materials.
February- Friendships/Valentines
Examples of items covered for this month include-
Social sight signs and symbols, household bills, timetables, finding factual information etc.
Reading Strategies- context, sound prediction and decoding
Maths- Weight/Capacity/Budgeting
Stories- St. Brigit/St. Valentine/Myths & Legends
Prep. For Confirmation- Attended Mass x2 (Confirmation will take place on Saturday March 30th.)

January 2019 Themes for this month are Winter & Toys
Samples of work for our Winter Theme-
We covered a range of literacy work around words associated with Winter.
We have just completed a project on China, one of the things we learned is that 2019 is the year of the pig.
We are looking at temperature in Maths at the moment.
We are focusing on shopping and looking at the cost of everyday items in Maths.
Art- We made a Winter Mobile and designed some really nice Posters using the Winter Theme.
We made hot chocolate with some butter cookies as part of our Winter Theme.
Toys
We completed a wide variety of work using "Toys" as our theme across all subjects.

- We looked at the history of toys/toys now and then/toys that are still popular today
- We designed some posters in Art advertising a toy fair and we made a fairy tree collage
We used a range of mixed media materials in Art this month with some fantastic results.

Well done to Aoibhe, Susan & Holly, they won 1st. prize in the second stage of The Chapter Level of the Credit Union Art Competition. They will now go automatically to The National Final which will take place in February 2019.

We are learning about directions.Literacy - We wrote about our mid-term break under different headings and discussed it in class.
We looked at a selection of jobs that people do and discussed what type of service they provide. Numeracy - We are covering time(the clock) for November, we are also doing lots of work on budgeting. Samples of work covered for the month of September
