We started off the month by looking at the theme Technology.
In art we painted Mandala designs onto CDs.
We looked at Indian, Mexican and Spanish cuisine for our food theme. We then got busy in the kitchen!
In Cookery we made patatas bravas and spaghetti carbonara.
We tried out sewing and really enjoyed it. Take a look at what we made.
We were skipping in P.E. and we also took the bikes out a few times while the weather was so nice.
April
We made our very own stress balls in class.
We designed stained glass in art.
Thoughtful Thursday-Here we are writing down something positive about ourselves and a friend.
We were learning about fractions in maths.
We love having so much space on the yard for P.E.
We were busy in the polytunnel.
We had a cookery competition where we split into groups and made shepherd's pie. They were judged at the end by a special guest! We all did great.
We bought an enchilada kit and made them. They were very tasty.
March
Before breaking for our well deserved Easter holidays we did some work on the theme of Ireland.
We had a quiz based on all things Irish and we sampled some Irish food that we all liked!
As part of English we typed some of our pieces of writing.

Our themes for the month were Friendship and Health.
As part of oral language we shared what we read in the local newspapers with the class.

In maths we learned about length.
For the friendship theme we looked at the different types of friends we have and why friendship is important.
As part of the health theme we looked at mental health and the sugar content in food.

The girls wanted to try their hands at knitting and made hairbands for some of the younger girls in Ms. Whelan’s and Mrs. Wall’s class.
We made quesadillas and chocolate biscuit cake in cookery.

January
Secondary 2 are well and truly back in full swing after the holidays! Our themes for the month were Winter and the Solar System.
For our Winter theme we looked at the Winter Olympics. We looked at Russia where the Winter Olympics were held in 2014 and the different winter sports.

As part of the Solar System theme we looked at the moon and the different planets.

In maths we were learning about capacity and weight.
One of the discussions we had in SPHE was about body image. We spoke about the importance of accepting ourselves for who we are. We looked at how ads on TV and on social media sometimes portray people to be someone they're not.
Here we are in P.E. playing Dodge-ball and Tag me.
We celebrated a birthday at the end of the month.
November
Here we are doing some money activities in Maths.
Here we are doing some pair work in English.
Shopping and Homes were the themes for November. In Art we made birdhouses and traced over shops then drew them.
In Science we investigated what happens when a balloon filled with baking soda attached to a bottle is added to vinegar.
In P.E. we played volleyball and learned the Seige of Ennis and Shoe the Donkey.
We made wraps in Cookery.
We took part in the annual Shoebox Appeal. We filled up shoeboxes with pencils, notebooks, colours, socks, face cloths, toothbrushes, sweets etc and then brought them to the drop-off point in Dungarvan.
To get into the Christmas spirit, we put up some decorations! Roll on December for the all of the lovely Christmas activities in school!
October
As part of report writing we used the laptops to research an animal of choice and wrote a report on that animal. We then typed the reports.
During Mental Health Awareness week we had a lot of discussions on how we can look after our own mental health. We did a 20 day meditation challenge where we did 10 minutes of meditation a day.
We also had Thoughtful Thursday where we wrote down 1 good thing about ourselves and 1 good thing about the person sitting beside us.

In P.E. we did gymnastics which was great fun.
We made rainbow bubble snakes.
In art we made lovely autumn trees.
We were busy in the cookery room.
Before the mid-term break we had our coffee morning. We celebrated a special birthday too.
September
Welcome back to Secondary 2. We are well settled in at this stage and have been busy all month.
We started back on day one by showing our support to the Waterford team by making blue and white plaits. We'll keep them for next year!

Our themes for the month were Myself and School. Here we are doing group work based on the two topics.
Here we are doing some name art.
We practised shading as part of drawing.
We made clay pots.
We did a toothpaste activity to show how hard it is to take back unkind words that are hurtful to others. After squeezing all the toothpaste out, we saw how difficult it was to put back in the tube.
We did some of our P.E. out in the new yard. It's great to have such a large area to run around in.
We practised our cooking skills and made lasagne. It was delicious.
We celebrated a special birthday during the month. We always try and make time to eat some cake when there is a birthday!
